In the wake of the Harvey Weinstein episode that triggered the MeToo campaign against harassment in the United States, Brazilian women are out in full force -- with some even sporting temporary tattoos with the message emblazoned across their shoulders, arms and chests. Rio's carnival -- the world's largest -- falls during the city's pre-Lenten blowout which draws millions of near-naked revelers dancing as the alcohol flows, and flows. The feast of excess is also often the backdrop for a slew of sexual assaults, particularly against women.
The samba parade held to celebrate the Rio Carnival is undoubtedly the biggest attraction on earth, with visitors from around the world flocking to Rio for a week of dancing, singing, and partying. To vibe with the rhythm of the samba the only place to be is the Rio Carnival. In all likelihood, the quest to experience the Carnival once could turn out to be an annual habit for any tourist.
The main carnival parade is made up of several samba schools competing for the title of the best samba school of the year. Each school centers their performance around a chosen theme that is acted out through a team of musicians, samba dancers and elaborately decorated floats after months of preparation. The most important dancer of each school is the Queen of the Drummers, who leads the musicians setting the tone and pace of the school with the beats of their huge steel drums.
The beat of the drums resonates down the streets of Rio every year for three weeks. Known as one of the greatest parties on the planetmillions of people dance and celebrate to Brazilian music. By definition, it is a carnal holiday with a lack of real authority.

The outfits at Rio Carnival add spice and color to the celebrations, seducing the spectators at the parades with their sensual and invigorating designs. Yet the traditional attire is more than just for show; the costumes also designate different roles and teams within the carnival parades. It can fit 90, people and contains permanent bleachers that stretch down the sides of a long street for 2, feet meters.
The metoo movement against harassment that is roiling the U. Thome and co-founder Renata Rodrigues announced plans for a block party protest as a joke, and within 24 hours more than 1, women said would attend. They knew they had struck a nerve.
